  1. Ice cubes
  2. A clean piece of clothe

What to do

  1. Scoop one or two ice cubes using a spoon.
  2. Place them on a clean piece of cloth.
  3. Wrap them with the cloth and tie a knot so that they do not fall off.
  4. Press the ice cubes in the cloth against the affected area for 15 minutes.

  1. Aloe Vera leaves
  2. A Sharp knife
  3. A mixer/ blender
  4. A container for collecting the gel

What to do

  1. Take two pieces of aloe Vera leaves and cut them on both ends. Use a knife to take out the upper green layer from the leaf in order to expose the thick aloe Vera gel in the leaves.
  2. In case you find any yellow liquid on the leaf, rinse it out with clean water.
  3. Peel off the green back of the leaf.
  4. The clear thick gel that is left is the aloe Vera gel.
  5. Cut the gel into small pieces and blend the gel into a liquid form.
  6. Apply the aloe Vera gel directly to the rash in circular motion.
  7. You may also drink Aloe Vera juice regularly if you can afford it.

Prevention of Pad Rash

Prevention is better than cure. The following are a few tips to prevent you from acquiring the rash next time you are on your periods.

1. Hygiene

Observe hygiene in order to keep away bacteria and other microorganisms that cause rashes and other infections. Clean the vaginal area regularly during menstruation using plenty of water.

Ensure you wear a fresh pad or tampon every time you clean your vagina. Wearing a fresh pad often also prevents you from being damp for too long.

2. Good Choice of Sanitary Towels

If you chose to use sanitary pads also known as menstrual diapers instead of tampons, go for the soft and light ones. If you can afford organic pads, the better, because they are not made using chemicals that can irritate your skin.

Maxi pads usually rub against your thighs and vaginal area resulting into irritation. It is also advisable to avoid scented pads because you may be allergic to the chemicals used to make the scent.

3. Choice of Attire

Try and wear lose cotton clothes for they allow free flow of air and prevent heat from building up around the vaginal area or anus. Avoid clothes made of synthetic fiber during menstruation. Synthetic fiber does not promote proper aeration down there.

4. Antiseptic Cream

Get your doctor to prescribe an antiseptic cream for you. Apply the antiseptic cream on the fold between your thighs and the vaginal area or around your anus.

Do this every time you change your pad. You may also use and antiseptic gel if an antiseptic cream is not available.

5. Antiseptic Powder

Do not use ordinary powder around your vaginal area or anus. Apply antiseptic powder on your inner thighs and around your vaginal area before wearing your sanitary towel. This will help keep you dry.

6. Vitamin C

Vitamin C contains antioxidants that prevent microorganisms from attacking your body. Eat food that are rich in Vitamin C. Vitamin C is found in most fruits and vegetables like oranges, lemons, grapefruit, kiwi fruit , mango, papaya ,pineapple, berries, pepper ,sweet potatoes, tomato and broccoli .

7. Have a good rest

It is important to get enough sleep and avoid fatigue in order to boost your immune system. Train yourself to sleep early. Doctors recommend that you should at least have 8 hours of sleep every night.

8. Invest in a Mooncup

A moon cup is the best alternative for pads or tampons during menstruation. It is made of soft, medical –grade silicone. It is inserted inside the vagina and it is so comfortable you won’t feel it down there.
